SAINT LUCIA ALL CLEAR STATEMENT ISSUED WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE PRIME MINISTER

Tropical Storm Dorian continues to move away from Saint Lucia and the threats from the hazards associated with this system have diminished considerably.

The Met Services has discontinued Tropical storm warnings for Saint Lucia from 8:00am today. As a result the Saint Lucia Meteorological Services will issue no more advisories on tropical storm Dorian. However, small craft operators are advised to remain in port and residents of areas prone to flooding and landslides should continue to exercise caution. The Saint Lucia Meteorological Services will issue additional statements if the need arises.

 

As a consequence the Prime Minister has approved the all clear for St. Lucia effective 10:00. am. In that regard, employers are advised to determine time for reopening of their businesses. Additionally, it is recommended that employees verify with their employers regarding reporting time for work. The public is further advised to contact business places regarding opening hours.

TROPICAL STORM WARNING DISCONTINUED FOR SAINT LUCIA…

At 8:00 am today the center of Tropical Storm Dorian was located near 14.0 North… 61.2 West or about 15 miles or 25 km west northwest of Saint Lucia.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts.  Slow strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Dorian could be near hurricane strength when it approaches Puerto Rico on Wednesday.  Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles or 75 kilometers from the center.

Tropical Storm Dorian is moving towards the west-northwest or 290 degrees at 13 mph or 20 km/h.

At 5:00 am today the center of Tropical Storm Dorian was located near Saint Lucia.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts.  Slow strengthening  is forecast during the next few days, and Dorian could be near hurricane strength when it approaches Puerto Rico on Wednesday.  Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles or 75 kilometers from the center.

A TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR SAINT LUCIA…

At 2:00 am today the center of Tropical Storm Dorian was located near latitude 13.2 degrees northlongitude 60.2 degrees west or about 70 miles or 110 kilometers southeast of Saint Lucia.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts.  Slow strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Dorian could be near hurricane strength when it approaches Puerto Rico on Wednesday.  Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles or 75 kilometers from the center.

At 11:00 pm today the center of Tropical Storm Dorian was located near latitude 13.2 degrees  north, longitude 59.7 degrees west or about 95 miles or 155 kilometers east-southeast of Saint Lucia.

 

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts.  Slow strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Dorian could be near hurricane strength when it approaches Puerto Rico on Wednesday.  Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles or 75 kilometers from the center.

A TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR SAINT LUCIA BUT WITH DORIAN STRENGTHENING HURRICANE CONDITIONS MAY BE EXPECTED AS WELL.

At 8:00 pm today the center of Tropical Storm Dorian was located near latitude 13.0 degrees northlongitude 59.1 degrees west or about 140 miles or 220 kilometers east-southeast of Saint Lucia.

Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph or 95 km/h, with higher gusts.  Slow strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Dorian could be near hurricane strength on Tuesday.

 Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles or 75 kilometers from the center.

SMALL CRAFT ARE ADVISED TO REMAIN IN PORT AND RESIDENTS TO STAY AWAY FROM BEACHES AND COASTAL AREAS.

OVER THE WINDWARD ISLANDS IT WILL BE CLOUDY TO OVERCAST WITH MODERATE TO HEAVY SHOWERS AND SOME THUNDERSTORMS. ELSEWHERE, IT WILL BE CLOUDY AT TIMES WITH A FEW SHOWERS.

TROPICAL STORM DORIAN IS EXPECTED CAUSE WIDESPREAD CLOUDINESS, SHOWERS, THUNDERSTORMS AND GUSTY WINDS OVER THE WINDWARD ISLANDS TONIGHT AND TOMORROW.

 

AT 5:00 PM TODAY, THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM DORIAN WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 12.7 NORTH, LONGITUDE 58.8 WEST, ABOUT 165 MILES OR 270 KM EAST SOUTHEAST OF SAINT LUCIA. DORIAN IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NORTHWEST NEAR 14 MPH OR 22 KM/H. ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE CENTER OF DORIAN IS EXPECTED TO OVER THE WINDWARD ISLANDS TONIGHT AND INTO THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN SEA TOMORROW.

 

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 60 MPH OR 95 KM/H WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS, AND DORIAN COULD BE NEAR HURRICANE STRENGTH ON TUESDAY.

 

RESIDENTS AND INTERESTS IN SAINT LUCIA AND THE LESSER ANTILLES ARE ASKED TO CLOSELY MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM AND TAKE ALL NECESSARY MEASURES TO SAFEGUARD LIFE AND PROPERTY.

Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph or 95 km/h, with higher gusts.  Slow strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Dorian could be near hurricane strength on Tuesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles or 75 kilometers from the center.

Government Announces National Shutdown for Saint Lucia as of 6:00 PM Monday 26 August 2019

The Government of Saint Lucia has declared a mandatory national shutdown effective 6 p.m. today.

The decision was made at a pre-strike meeting of the National Emergency Management Advisory Committee (NEMAC), in preparation for Tropical Storm Dorian.

Tropical Storm Dorian has intensified with maximum sustained winds near 60 mph or 95 km/h, and higher gusts. The island is expecting as much as 10 inches of rain in some areas, and hurricane force winds. The eye of the storm is predicted to pass south of the island at 2 a.m. on Tuesday. It is expected that the island will begin to feel the effects of the storm early this evening.

 

Residents and visitors must remain under national shutdown until the ALL CLEAR has been given by NEMO
