September 28, 2016 - As of 11:00 am today, the wave has been upgraded Tropical Storm Matthew, and Saint Lucia is under a Tropical Storm warning. Warnings are issued when sustained winds of 34 to 63 knots (39 to 73 mph or 63 to 118 km/hr) are expected somewhere within the specified area within 36 hours in association with a tropical, subtropical, or post-tropical cyclone.
This system is moving west to west northwest at approximately 15 to 20 mph or 24 to 32 km/h. The center is expected to cross the island chain near the Central Windward Islands later on today Wednesday 28th September, 2016.
Associated with this system are heavy rains and tropical storm force winds that is between 40 to 45 mph.
The Acting Prime Minister had earlier today advised the
1. All schools remain closed for today;
2. Business houses and Government Offices close at 12 noon
At this time, you should continue preparing your home and reviewing your plan for evacuation in case a Hurricane or Tropical Storm. Additionally, NEMO is advising the Public to continue monitoring the progress of this system and take immediate preemptive action to protect themselves and their property.
