As at 5:00 PM AST (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Danny was located near latitude 14.0 North and longitude 48.2 West or about 930 miles or 1495 km east of the Windward Islands. Danny is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue through tonight. A turn toward the west is expected on Saturday or Saturday night. On this forecast track, the center of Hurricane Danny is expected to pass near the Leeward Islands on Monday.
Reports from a NOAA Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate that Danny is now a Category 3 Hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. The maximum winds are estimated to be 115 mph (185 km/h) with higher gusts. However, no additional strengthening is expected, as Danny is moving into a less favourable environment and a weakening trend is expected during the next 48 hours.
